If you’re interested in becoming more serious about community organizing, mutual aid, or supporting your neighbors, you’re in the right place. We’re looking for passionate, reliable, long-term members to join our team and help us reclaim a sense of belonging for underrepresented community members of the South Bay area of LA by serving those who are underserved and often forgotten.

  • Community loving is a mutual aid organization that provides necessary resources to low-income families in the South Bay so that they can do more than survive. This is 100% volunteer ran. There are no paid employees. Our values align with abolitionist, anti-capitalist, and anti-racist sentiments.

  • We are looking for long-term members who are

    • eager to learn how to organize and be a leader

    • reliable and able to make the time commitment to help us achieve our goals

    • from or currently reside in the South Bay (not required)

    • is highly proficient in google docs and google sheets

roles & responsibilities

Administrative roles

    • Scheduling of weekly to biweekly team meetings

    • Scribing of meeting notes/ minutes

    • Maintaining communication between members regarding organizational updates

    • Maintain organization of important documents (e.g. meeting notes/minutes, permits, booking confirmations, rosters, attendance sheets, etc.)

    • Develop and monitor workflows for organizational processes and checklists

    • Donations collection - Create & maintain donation receipts

    • Maintain relationships with donors and larger supporting entities supporting the procurement of resources for the org

    • Ensure individual donors are thanked in a timely and appropriate manner

    • Keep inventory of organizational resources, both internal and for distribution

    • Maintain record of available inventory and stores for use

    • Manage the organizing and storing of organizational resources, along with volunteer days associated with the management of said resources

    • Assist in the procurement of material resources to aid to the work of the organization

    • Develop lists of entities providing material resources and aid in support of the work of the org

Volunteer coordinator

    • Create and manage volunteer sign-up forms

    • Provide instructions for engagements and events, including but not limited to: date and time of event, directions, parking, on-site volunteer roles, things to complete prior to event, and clean up directives

    • Lead in recruitment of key member roles into organization (long-term contributors)

    • Recruit volunteers for specific engagements/activities (one-time/short-term contributors)

    • Orient new team to mission, vision, values and roles of organization

    • Manage volunteer lists and contact information

Event Coordinator

    • Lead the planning, coordination, & execution of special events with executive director

    • Reservation of spaces through whichever booking system is available (e.g. online booking, acquiring city permits)

    • Contract services from vendors (catering, music, other organizations)

    • Cataloging and preparation of materials+resources needed for event

    • Resource distribution event: tents, tables, chairs, canopy, donations, etc

Outreach role

    • Table at local community events to raise awareness of org and its services

    • Create resource flyers with pertinent information about organization, or provide other resources/services to be of use to community members

    • Attendance tracking of participants/number of people served

    • Touch-person to field participant questions and/or concerns during event

Social Media & Marketing roles

    • Manage social media content posts and general audience engagement

    • Develop flyers, posters, and infographics detailing info for events, services, related community news, political education around our org, etc.

      • Ideally want someone Fluent in Canva —> can make us visually appealing flyers, posts

    • Outline social media posting schedule based on recurring content

    • Design and order print marketing materials like brochures, banners, posters, etc.

    • Distribution of newsletter or updates to interested parties (i.e. volunteers, donators, local community members, etc) through email marketing

      • Keep a listserv of people involved in your org for this to be effective

      • Can incorporate participant testimony, community member input and updates, etc.

      • Also can announce updates for upcoming events/programming through this method

Financial Development roles

    • Develop organizational budget for the year’s expected expenses

    • Track organizational spending and revenue to maintain healthy org finances

    • Maintain legal entity status for upcoming taxes

    • Approve or deny organizational proposals for spending if over budget for certain items

    • Raise comprehension of organizations through transparent budget education

    • Fundraising

      • Lead in development of fundraising campaigns to maintain org sustainability and increase revenue stream

      • Fundraising event types: food sale, thrift yard sale, party, gala, door-to-door canvassing, text/email campaign

      • Outline fundraising calendar for the year based on specific campaigns and or events to raise funds

      • Delegate fundraising responsibilities across all organization members to aid in raising funds

    • Grant Writing

      • Research prospective individual donors and foundation funders that would be a good fit for the org

      • Write and submit Letters of Inquiry, grant proposals and grant reports for the organization

      • Utilize donor databases (e.g. Salsa) to analyze and understand donors’ giving history

      • Write and manage fundraising appeals

      • Ensure individual and foundation donors are thanked in a timely and appropriate manner
